Mark Healey Powers is a governmental affairs specialist whose knowledge of Connecticut’s state and local governments is unsurpassed. He has extensive experience dealing with local, state and federal elected officials and administrative agencies on behalf of the firm’s clients.

An Elected State Legislator
Mr. Powers was an elected state legislator for 10 years, serving first as a State Representative and later a State Senator. While in the Connecticut Legislature he served as the Senate Chair of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee, and Vice Chair of the Energy and Public Utilities Committee. He was also a member of the Legislative Program Review and Investigations Committee.

Improving the State's Environment
Mr. Powers was recognized during his tenure in the Legislature as a supporter of measures to improve the state’s environment, particularly Long Island Sound. His Senate district included the City of New London and he played a key role in obtaining state funding which enabled the City to plan comprehensively and begin preparations for waterfront developments.

East Lyme Board Member
Earlier in his public life, Mr. Powers was a member of the East Lyme Board of Selectmen.

Active in Regulatory Legislation
Mark Powers has also supported efforts toward a diversified state economy, and was active in regulatory legislation involving the state’s insurance and utility industries.
Community Involvement
Mr. Powers has continued to be active in the state and his hometown of East Lyme since leaving the legislature. His volunteer work includes:
- Chairman of the Niantic River Gateway Commission
- Chairman of the East Lyme Aquatic & Fitness Center Foundation
- Member of several ad hoc committees dealing with the East Lyme school system
- Member of the Greater Connecticut Multiple Sclerosis Board of Directors
- Transition committee member for First Selectman Paul Formica
- Various other boards and commissions
